• Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog?
Hi! My name is Madison and I am from Tennessee. I currently attend college in South Carolina where I am studying psychology. I love cats, traveling, food, and of course shopping. My blog focuses around preppy and classic fashion as well as some lifestyle posts thrown in the mix. Ever since I was little, I loved dressing up and “modeling” for photos. I guess I was destined to create a fashion blog considering family and friends would always call me a fashionista while growing up.

• How did you first get into blogging? Who/what inspired you to do so?
I was in my senior year of high school during the college application process, and I was so exhausted from schoolwork. I didn’t really have a hobby because most of my time I spent swimming, doing school clubs, and studying. I wanted a creative outlet. I had been following a couple blogs on Instagram for a while such as Belle of the Ball, Lonestar Southern, and Prep Avenue. I loved following their blogs and always envied their adorable clothes. I realized that I had similar styles to them and so I wanted to give it a go. I have always loved trying to take cute photos so I thought creating a separate Instagram account would be perfect. I then saw an ad for creating a blog and I went for it. It was definitely on a whim, but I do remember the first photo shoot I did with my mom.

• How would you describe your blogging style?
I like to cut straight to the point in my writing, so I do the same in blogging. I try not to add fluff to my posts because fluff is redundant. My writing style leans towards scientific research writing (yes- you can write a blog even if your writing is not super creative!) so it has been a bit of a struggle making my posts more creative and readable. In terms of when I post and how I post, I like to put up 2 posts a week. Most of the time my posts are fashion, but I like to include some lifestyle posts every so often. Most importantly, I like to remain honest and genuine on my posts. I want to tell you the truth and not sugar coat anything, especially when it comes to my advice posts.

• How long have you been blogging? What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
I started my blog in October of 2016, so the blog is almost a year-old. The most challenging moment (or moments) in my blog is dealing with slow growth. My blog has grown relatively slowly to other blogs, so it makes it difficult to see other blogs growing fast while mine remains fairly constant. I think all bloggers struggle with this at some point though.

• How do you continue to motivate yourself to blog even through the rough times (Loss of creativity, writer's block, etc)?
I think being in a blogging community such as fashion allows you to take inspiration from others but turn it into your own. A lot of my ideas for posts comes from clothing I have bought that other bloggers have such as a skirt, but then I style the skirt in my own personal style. I also ask readers what they would like to see. This sounds silly, but whenever I “run out” of ideas of lose some creativity, I will go shopping to pick out a few new items and then style them.

• What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog? What is your advice to other bloggers who are not seeing the statistics that they want?
Connecting my blog to Twitter and Facebook has honestly made my posts gain way more fews than ever before. I also utilize twitter cards, which basically allows a picture to be linked to your website, directing more traffic than if you post a pic on twitter with the link in the text (I know it’s confusing, but just search twitter cards and it will all be explained haha!) I still don’t see the statistics that I want. There will be a week where I lose followers on instagram and remain at the same exact numbers. Then the next week I will gain 30 followers. It’s a frustrating process. My best advice is to continually post content that you are proud of- not something just to post it. I use UN UM (an app) to arrange my Instagram feed. My instagram is where most people find my blog, so I spend most of my time advertising my blog on there. Find a social media outlet that you want to spend most of your “advertising” for your blog, and stick to a consistent post schedule and interact with your followers/readers.

• How do you manage time between your life and blogging life?
Blogging has not seemed to take up a ton of time in my life. Over the summer I worked on the blog because I wasn’t too busy except for working a couple days a week. During the school year it’s a bit more difficult to shoot posts and write. However, I’m generally on top of things when it comes to time management, so I try to get personal things done first such as school work, and then leave my free time for the blog. Blogging is my hobby, so some people spend an hour a day making art or playing an instrument, I spend an hour a day working on the blog. Also, my work on the blog comes in random bursts if that makes sense. I’m on my social medias all throughout the day for small amounts of time and then pick up on the blog at least every other day online.

• What has been the biggest difference in your life post-blogging?
The way I notice things in photos. I’ve become a lot pickier when it comes to what photos look like and how other people take my photos. My wallet has had quite an adjustment since starting blogging because I want to buy so many clothes that other bloggers have!

• When you are not blogging, what would you most likely be doing?
During the school year, you can find me studying, reading, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix, working out, shopping, etc. Over breaks and summer, I try to travel, babysit and lifeguard, and relax.

• Overall, are you happy with your decision to begin blogging? Where do you see yourself in the years to come?
Absolutely! I have had such an incredible time meeting bloggers, connecting with readers, and growing my own personal corner of the internet. While it can be frustrating at times, it’s so important for me to have a creative outlet where I can just be me. In the next few years I might be blogging or not, it all depends on where school takes me. However, I currently have no plans on stopping and I hope to grow my blog, work with more brands, and reach out to more readers.
