Consider The Lilies

Closeup of yellow flowers.

I am in my last semester of college and I graduate in less than three months. As I get closer to turning in my last assignments and taking my last final exams, the thoughts of life post-grad are beginning to enter my mind. Resumes, cover letters, job applications, etc. are becoming a priority in my life as I get closer to walking across the stage. Feelings of excitement and the unknown are also growing. With all the things that need to be done during this upcoming season of change, I have been reminded of Matthew 6:25-34 where Jesus instructs us not to worry and instead consider the lilies. In other words, we are to "see how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin". He tells us to "not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself" (NIV).

I love the imagery used in these verses about the flowers not laboring but instead just being what they were made to do. For me, this means I can enjoy this season of life and the excitement that I have for what's next after college without the burden of worry or stress. Yes, I can be proactive in preparing for post-grad but whatever happens, is ultimately up to Him and what He has in store. I need not to worry (still working on this!) but instead just "seek first his kingdom". We can rest knowing He is our provision. How are you being called to consider the lilies in this season of your life? ♥
